Gexa Energy Review — Is It Actually Good?
A large, established Texas REP with genuinely competitive fixed rates and strong 100%-renewable options. The catch: several of its plans (including the well-known Eco Saver line) apply usage-threshold bill credits — worth tracking closely if you sign up for one.
Weighing it up
Pros and cons
Pros
Competitive fixed rates on standard 100% renewable plans — often in the low-to-mid 12¢/kWh range at 1,000 kWh usage.
Large, well-established REP with a long operating history in Texas — low risk of the provider itself going under.
Straightforward online enrollment and account management.
12-month terms available with moderate, predictable early termination fees.
Cons
Historically marketed Eco Saver Plus plans apply a $125 bill credit only above a 1,000 kWh threshold — miss it and the entire credit disappears, not just a portion.
Rates quoted at 500 kWh are noticeably higher than at 1,000–2,000 kWh, meaning low-usage households (small apartments, mild months) pay a real premium.
Renewable content and specific promos vary by plan and change often — always check the current EFL, not just the marketing page.
Gexa is known for usage-threshold bill credit plans like Eco Saver Plus — a $125 credit that only applies at 1,000+ kWh. Fall short and you lose the whole credit, not a prorated share. See our guide on the electric bill "cliff" this creates.
