Everything you need to understand your bill
Answers and guides to help you make sense of your Texas electricity bill.
What is HitMyCredit?+
HitMyCredit is a free tool that tracks your daily electricity usage against your plan’s bill credit threshold, so you always know whether you’re on track — and get warned in time to act if you’re falling behind.
What is Smart Meter Texas?+
Smart Meter Texas (SMT) is the official platform run by Texas transmission utilities (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP, TNMP) that gives residential customers, and authorized third parties, access to smart meter usage data. HitMyCredit uses SMT as the source of truth for your daily kWh readings.
How does HitMyCredit get my usage data?+
Two ways: either we connect directly to Smart Meter Texas on your behalf (after a one-time authorization, no SMT account needed), or we read the daily usage emails Smart Meter Texas already sends you. You choose which one during signup, and can switch later.
Is HitMyCredit affiliated with my electricity company?+
No. HitMyCredit is an independent service and is not affiliated with any Retail Electric Provider (REP), TDU, or ERCOT. We simply help you track usage against the terms of whatever plan you’re already on.
Is HitMyCredit free?+
Yes. Tracking, alerts, and the calculators on this site are free to use.
What happens if I miss my bill credit threshold?+
On most Texas bill credit plans, missing the kWh threshold by even a small amount forfeits the entire credit for that billing cycle — there’s no partial credit. See "How Texas Electricity Bill Credits Work" in the Education Center below for the full breakdown.
